About Me

Hi, my name is Hlynur Karlsson, and I was one of the 63 teenagers who were chosen to be a part of the Naturbridge Alcoa Scholars Program. I got to go with 19 other amazing kids to the Olympic National Park between the 14th of July to the 26th of July.

I come from a small town in Iceland called Neskaupstaður with a population of 1500 people. I come from a family of 5 and have two sisters. I love hiking and often go hiking in the mountains around my town.

About the Naturbridge Alcoa Scholars Program

The Alcoa Scholars Program is a great opportunity for 63 high school students to grow and learn in two beautiful national parks in the USA, Yosemite and The Olympic. The scholars that get chosen in this program go on a multi-day backpacking adventure where they get to do some science experiments and learn about environmental issues amongst other things.

This program is free for all scholars because of a generous grant from the Alcoa Foundation.
